Three Questions for New Expats or High Achievers

A video and three coaching questions for you, but especially if you are:

✅ A perfectionist / high achiever
🌍 An expat in your first year

Questions (feel free to adjust the timeframes to suit you better):

1. What have you accomplished in the last 6-8 weeks?
Write down as many things as you can think of, however small they seem! From completing a report or supporting a colleague, to finding an apartment or your way around a new area as an expat. Keep going until you run out of ideas.

2. What are you most proud of these past 6-8 weeks?

3. What have the highlights been these past 3-6 months? Both professionally and personally. What stands out, what will you remember or what did you really enjoy?

Perfectionists and achievers are often hard on themselves and focus on what they haven’t completed. Their list is long and ambitious.

It’s important to look back sometimes and to acknowledge how much you HAVE accomplished. If you write until you totally exhaust every idea, you will probably be amazed by how much you have in fact managed to do!

Expats in particular are often high achievers – that’s one of the reasons they may have been relocated. They can be impatient with themselves or the settling in process. Getting set up does take time, especially as things take longer when you don’t know the place, your colleagues or perhaps the culture.

To me, the third ‘Highlights’ question is important. We need to enjoy the journey and to notice what is making life fun or fulfilling. So we can appreciate it and so we can seek out or create more of those moments.

Especially if you had trouble answering that one, what do you want be able to say 3 months from now? For your work and personal life. What’s the next action you need to take to start making that happen?
